Kettle Wall Street
—
Named for the controversial police practice of “kettling” or detaining protestors with plastic netting, Kettle Wall Street was an Augmented Reality art piece created for a group show of geo-specific interventions at Wall street organized by artist Mark Skwarek on behalf of Williamsburg’s Devotion Gallery. The piece was placed with GPS coordinates to cover the facade of the the New York Stock exchange when viewed with a mobile device, so as to resemble the police barricades that were used to contain and arrest protesters as they assembled peacefully on Wall Street and on the Brooklyn Bridge in the weeks prior.
