“You’re Pregnant, You Sit Down”

Games

“You’re Pregnant, You Sit Down” is a game about the experience of having a pregnant body that I created based on journal entries from my pregnancy with my first child. The game explores complicated emotions reconciling impending motherhood with various cultural forces, intimacy between women and the perceptions of pregnancy from the standpoint of onlookers versus women and others with practical knowledge of what it means to experience it firsthand. Ultimately, the game is a chronicle of the idiosyncrasies that make up the day to day experience of navigating the world in a pregnant body while adjusting to the uncertainty and loss of control that inevitably accompanies pregnancy, childbirth and being a parent more generally. This game was created with the Bitsy Game Maker by Adam Le Doux.
